World No Tobacco Day | Get Legit Reasons To Quit

Tobacco is the second leading cause of cardiovascular related deaths globally! It is only preceded by high blood pressure. Today, May 31st is The World Health Organization‘s official #NoTobaccoDay.

Their message on social media this year highlights just how heart breaking smoking tobacco is. Personally, it reminds me of life’s grim reaper. Smoking tobacco, second hand smoke, and smokeless alternatives have the ability to rob you and your children of living your lives IN health. How?

Your life is meant to live IN health not in a hospital!

Additional health risks from smoking tobacco & second hand smoke include: stroke, lung cancer & oral cancer .

Smoking while pregnant places risks for your unborn child too. Congenital heart defects while in utero, premature births and miscarriages. Even your child’s tooth development or lack of it is linked to smoking during your pregnancy! Sudden death has also been linked to infants.

Your OBGYN, physician, dentist, dental hygienist, pediatrician are key resources to have a health empowered conversation with.

Additional information on how smoking WILL impact your child’s health & quality of life is found in this read.

Although tobacco doesn’t literally grow on trees, it IS a money tree for companies. Cigarette smoking is clearly at the top of the toxic for your health list, companies are becoming smart with marketing a new target audience. Smokeless alternatives kinda has a non-threatening vibe right?

Vaping, Juuling, etc. target your kids with their sleek look, more flavors than Baskin Robbins ice cream and offer that “hit” being you guessed it … nicotine. Nicotine is ruthless. Nicotine destroys the health of your child’s brain as it develops until age 21.

What is in vaping? How do you start the conversation with your teen?

I’ll give you resources in this vlog. View here.

3 Ways To Apply Negative Feedback Successfully

Ever notice your body’s reaction prior to your performance review? Speaker evaluation? Pay attention to your heart rate, whether or not you are holding your breath or feeling your deodorant beginning to work overtime! Why do we fear feedback? Is it possible that we do not know how to process it or rebound from it when it is less than stellar?

My first 25 years working as a clinical dental hygienist had me fear feedback every day from patients! Their feedback rarely had anything to do with my clincal skills or the ability to provide the services within my legal scope of practice. The comments that were “zingers” were based upon opinion of their fear, anxiety, or experience.

So how do you apply negative feedback successfully?

Ask yourself if the comment directly applies to your job performance or if it is a zinger. Here’s a simple check list to refer to when reading a less than stellar comment on your job performance. (1) does this refer to the content or job you were hired to do  (2) crossing the line regarding code of ethics or your moral compass (3) anything illegal happen and finally,  (4) is it life threatening to anyone. Most often, it will be how you may hone your content or job skill sets. Embrace that!

The “zingers” are constricted opinions that hold zero relevance to your professional and financial growth. Give the “zingee”  a hug or food if they are hangry and then shake it off. You’ve got something better to accomplish than planning for a pity party. Last week’s vlog shares some examples of my own recent “zingers”

Negative feedback is not a monster. It is designed for your growth and productivity in your career. It empowers you to gain ground on a weaker skill set and strengthen it.

3 steps to successfully apply negative feedback are;

1) Breathe. Before your meeting / performance review, get an index care out with the word Breathe on it and look at it. Breathe in positivity and exhale anxiety to gift your body’s reaction to a state of openness, calm, centered.

2) Receive. Yes, it is always nice to know you hit your goal, delivered an outstanding program. Now, receive the not so good. Recognize the difference between what holds promise for your growth and what holds an empty opinion. Before moving on to the 3rd step, revisit the encouraging feedback to compare it with your checklist above. This action adjusts your mindset, driving you forward to hone skill sets for success.

3) Believe. Take the fact that we have areas that are not our strongest assets. Mine, for example, is organization. Living with ADHD, it is a struggle to remember where my keys are let alone get to an email response on time. Believe in yourself no matter what. Surround yourself with people to help you achieve this goal.  Hire a coach, bookkeeper, virtual assistant, video editor, etc. to be on your team. Be accountable to set realistic timelines with the expectation that you will have strengthened that area and it will be noticeable in your business. Soon you will “Be-Leaving” what may have held you back! Using this 3-step system is an emotionally healthy approach that will add value to your career, advance you past prior skill sets or zingers and empower you to live an abundantly productive life!

Why Is The ADA Seal A BIG Deal?

Jim Carrey

I’m almost as excited as Jim Carrey’s character, Ace Ventura, to share the following news with you!

Did you know that only ONE power toothbrush has received the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance? It is a BIG deal!

FACT: Oral health products that have the ADA Seal of Acceptance simplifies the consumers decision to buy. Simply stated, 71% of you trust the products with this seal and move forward in buying it!

What about the recommendations from your dental professional? 3 out of 5 dental patients will invest in the oral health product that was specifically recommended by their dentist, dental hygienist or dental assistant.

The question is has your dental professional shared this information with you?

Have you seen it on their dental practice social media pages?

I can tell you that I have not seen it and yes I DO check dental practice fan pages! Why aren’t they informing their patients?

There are 8 power toothbrushes that have this honor. I am obsessed with the Oral-B Genius for many reasons. The research to both safely AND effectively remove plaque is proven. The sensor to alert me when I’m brushing too hard will save my gums and discourage tooth sensitivity. Gum recession has many contributing factors, yet brushing too hard is habit driven. The position detection device on the app, makes me feel like I’ve got an oral fitness coach that helps me reach my fitness goal of health! It reminds me when to discard the toothbrush head and replace it! How many times do we forget to replace our toothbrushes even though we’ve noticed the bristles look like they are begging for mercy!

When your smile is fit, your health reflects it!

To gain the ADA seal, your product’s claim can’t be lame. That claim has to be backed up by researching the evidence based studies, investigating the manufacturing process for safety, reviewing the mode of action, therapeutic agents to prove its level of efficacy.  It is a comforting feeling to know that what I recommend to you, for your current state of oral health has received the honor of the ADA seal.

I’ve provided you my weekly vlog to view! SHARE it!
